IFRA, Fragrance Oils, & Our Room Spray Tools
Before choosing a fragrance, always check its IFRA documentation to confirm the maximum allowed usage rate for Category 10B.
You might be wondering...what is IFRA? Why is it important?
Don't worry, we have a guide going over everything you need to know about IFRA and how to use it to keep your products safe + compliant!
Fragrance Oil Loads + Percentages
As for what percentage of fragrance oil you should use, (of course- depending on IFRA!), our room spray base is designed to accept up to a maximum fragrance load of 15%. BUT, that doesn’t mean you NEED to use 15%.
The suggested fragrance load for this room spray base is between 7-10% for most fragrance oils. And honestly, in our testing, that is typically strong enough for customers to enjoy a long-lasting fragrance without it being overpowering.
If you struggle with fragrance math, we have a free fragrance load calculator you can use! Less time worrying over all the numbers = more time spent making.
Our Room Spray Fragrance Load Finder Tool
Speaking of less time worrying and more time making...meet our fragrance load finder tool for our room spray base!
We tested all of our fragrance oils with our room spray base and compiled the results so you can know what you're getting into. Think of our CP soap testing notes, but for room sprays.
Each oil listing includes:
- IFRA Category 10B limit
- Max Stable Load (Before Separation) - the highest percentage we tested before visible separation occurred (not a recommendation or indicator of scent throw). We tested up to 10% only (may be able to go higher but you'll need to test).
- Discoloration observations - if the base noticeably changed color during testing
NOTE: We did not test for scent throw or longevity in this tool as different environments can create varying results. This tool was created to save you a few steps in the testing process, though!

Supplies You'll Need Before You Start
What you'll need:
- Fragrance oil (you can use any, but we recommend MWFC fragrance oils!)
- Scale (highly recommended for accuracy)
- Clean mixing containers
- Proper personal protective equipment (apron, gloves, googles and/or hairnet)
- Stirring utensil (ex: stirring rod or wire whisk)
- Packaging bottle with a fine mist sprayer
Step-by-Step: How To Make A Room Spray
Step 1: Measure your room spray base
For this example, we will be making a 4 oz room spray at a 10% fragrance load. This will equal out to 3.6 oz of room spray base and 0.4 oz of fragrance oil.
Add 3.6 oz of room spray base into a clean container.
Step 2: Add your fragrance oil
Add 0.4 oz of fragrance oil.
Step 3: Stir well to combine
Stir for 1-2 minutes, until the mixture is fully blended with no separation.
Step 4: Pour into bottles
Using a funnel, carefully transfer your room spray into a bottle that has a fine mist sprayer.
Step 5: Label and cure
Apply your label and allow your room spray to sit and cure for 24 hours.
Note: If you are observing cloudiness or separation at this point, then you have used too much fragrance and will need to dilute further with more base until the solution becomes clear again. We recommend testing at a few different percentages to find what works best for you!
Final Notes
Yes- it really is that simple to make high-quality room sprays that your customers will love!
By following our step-by-step tutorials, abiding by IFRA guidelines, and proper testing, room sprays can quickly become a fan favorite with your audience.
My final tip...don't forget to utilize the tools we created for you. It makes the process so much easier!
