Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need to premix fragrance with anything?
A: Nope! Add FO straight into the base and stir gently to incorporate.
Q: Can I go over 2% fragrance?
A: This luxury formula is designed for 0.5–2% in leave-on products. A max of 4% exists for this base, but testing is requirement. Higher loads may thin the base and could exceed IFRA limits for some fragrances. Always check IFRA and run stability tests.
Q: Can I color this lotion base?
A: Yes! You can use liquid soap dyes or other skin-safe colorants. Start with a very small amount—these colorants go a long way—and always test for even dispersion and stability before batching large quantities.
Q: Can I add extra ingredients (like oils, extracts, or actives)?
A: We don't recommend this for this base since it already has added shea butter, coconut oil, and vitamin E. If you want to customize your lotion a bit more, we would recommend our Original Lotion Base.
Q: What’s the shelf life?
A: Unopened and stored in a cool, dry place, this base has a shelf life of about 12 months. Once scented and bottled, we recommend use within 6–12 months for best texture and freshness.
Q: Do I need to add a preservative?
A: No! The base is already preserved with Phenoxyethanol and Ethylhexylglycerin. If you add extra water-based ingredients, however, you’ll need to re-evaluate preservation and perform stability testing.
Q: What packaging works best?
A: Most makers prefer pump bottles, squeeze tubes, or jars depending on intended use. Please note proper equipment may be needed to bottle this as the viscosity is denser! A jar may be easiest if you do not have equipment. Always test your packaging for compatibility and ease of dispensing with your finished scented lotion.

Using our fragrance oils is super simple, and we’re here to guide you! For candles, we recommend adding your fragrance to the melted wax when it’s at the correct temperature (usually around 185°F, but check your wax’s specs). Mix well, pour, and let the magic happen. For soap-making, our oils are perfect for melt-and-pour, cold process, or hot process soaps. Always follow recommended usage rates and do a small test batch to ensure everything works beautifully. The recommended fragrance load can vary depending on your project, but here’s a good starting point: for candles, we suggest 6–10% of your total wax weight, depending on your wax type and personal preference. For soaps, always checkIFRA usage rates to ensure your oils are skin-safe and used at the right level. When in doubt, start small and adjust until you find your perfect balance!
