Liquid Soap Dyes are super easy-to-use, water-soluble colorants made to bring your personal care products to life with beautiful, even color. Despite the name - they’re not just for liquid soap. We’re talking about any water-based personal care product - from liquid soap, melt & pour soap bars, shampoos & conditioners, scrubs, lotions, body mist sprays, bath bombs (except the color orange- see below) and even perfume (with the right base)!
And the best part? These dyes blend right in - no clumps, no weird streaks, no extra stress. Just shake, drop in as many drops as needed to achieve your shade, mix, and go. Made with FD&C and D&C certified colorants, vegan + cruelty-free, and completely buildable and blendable.
We love that these let you get creative. From soft pastels to bold bright colors, they got you covered. If you want your brand to feel intentional, cohesive, and beautiful on the outside and inside - these are the perfect addition.

Let’s define terms so we know what these mean:
-
“External Use”= This refers to a product that is applied to or used on the outside of the body. Examples include creams, lotions, and topical ointments, as opposed to drugs that are swallowed or injected. Means cosmetics applied anywhere on the outside of the body, but not areas covered by mucous membranes. And not eyes. Colors for “external use only” may or may not also be approved for the eye area (check the FDA for limitations).
-
“Cosmetic (general)” = The color additive may be used in any type of cosmetic, including areas covered by mucous membranes (lips, nostrils, ears and genital area); except for those for eye area use. Colors for “cosmetics (general)” may or may not also be approved for the eye area (check for FDA for limitations).

FAQs
Q: Can I use these dyes in more than just liquid soap?
A: Yes, yes, yes! While they’re called “soap dyes,” they’re actually perfect for any water-based personal care product—like, body sprays, shampoos, scrubs, , bath bombs (do not use color orange (see above)) and even lotions or perfumes (as long as the base is water-based). Think of them as your go-to for color in anything that’s not oil-based. *NOTE: not for use in cold/hot process soap.
Q: Can I use these dyes in cold process soaps?
A: Our liquid soap dyes are designed for water-based products like melt and pour soap, but they're not recommended for cold process soap. They won't perform well in that type of formulation. If you're making cold process soap, we'd suggest looking into colorants like micas instead!
Q: Can I use these dyes in bath bombs?
A: Yes AND no! Liquid soap dyes ARE an approved colorant for bath bombs but its a bit trickier than that. It comes down to the classification of use for the specific colorants used to make the liquid soap dyes. ALMOST all of the MWFC Liquid Soap Dyes are FDA-supported for external and cosmetic (general) use. The Orange Liquid Soap Dye, however, is recommended for external use only (not cosmetic general). Because of this, we’re recommending that Orange not be used in bath bombs, to err on the side of caution. If you want to read more on this check out the FDA's website as well as Marie Gale (an expert in the industry!)
Additionally, when using dyes in bath bombs, add Polysorbate 80 to help disperse color evenly and minimize staining.
Some makers prefer not to use liquid dyes in bath bombs (as they can slightly increase moisture), while others have had great success — it’s all about personal preference and testing what works best for your formula.
Q: Are Liquid Soap Dyes soluble in oil?
A: Nope! These dyes are specifically made for water-based products—they're not oil-soluble and won’t work in anhydrous or oil-based formulas like body butters or balms. Stick with water-based systems for best results.
Q:Are MWFC’s Liquid Soap Dyes FDA certified?
A:Our Liquid Soap Dyes are made using FD&C and D&C certified colorants (these are FDA batch-certified raw materials). Once those raw dyes are blended into a mixture (aka: with glycerin to make our Liquid Soap Dyes), the FDA does not certify the final mixture. Certification only applies to the raw dye powders and liquids themselves.
What this means for you as a maker:
- There is currently no process for certifying dye mixtures like these — so you’re not missing a step or doing anything wrong by using them.
- You can confidently use them in your water-based personal care products knowing they are created from FDA-certified FD&C/D&C raw colorants.
- It’s still your responsibility to ensure your finished product meets general cosmetic labeling and compliance rules.
Q: Can these dyes stain equipment or skin?
A: They can, yes—just like most concentrated dyes. It’s best to wear gloves while working and wipe up any spills right away. A little goes a long way, so using the correct amount also helps minimize mess. And always visually check your batch to make sure the color is even and fully blended before pouring or bottling.
Q: How should I store these dyes?
A: Keep them tightly sealed, at room temperature (65–70°F), and away from extreme heat or cold. Never store them in metal containers—that can mess with the formula. With proper storage, they’ll last at least a year (many customers get much longer shelf life!).
Q: What’s the difference between Liquid Soap Dyes and Liquid Wax Dyes?
A: Great question!
• Liquid Soap Dyes are for water-based personal care products like soaps, sprays, shampoos, etc.
• Liquid Wax Dyes are for wax-based products like candles.
They’re not interchangeable, so make sure you’re using the right one for your formula.
Love these dyes for the foaming hand soap base. The color is great and you only need one drop per bottle!
Made a beautiful-looking soap bar. I will definitely purchase more colors for my collection.
A little goes a long way. I love it in both colors

Using our fragrance oils is super simple, and we’re here to guide you! For candles, we recommend adding your fragrance to the melted wax when it’s at the correct temperature (usually around 185°F, but check your wax’s specs). Mix well, pour, and let the magic happen. For soap-making, our oils are perfect for melt-and-pour, cold process, or hot process soaps. Always follow recommended usage rates and do a small test batch to ensure everything works beautifully. Need more tips? Check out our resources—we love helping makers like you!
The recommended fragrance load can vary depending on your project, but here’s a good starting point: for candles, we suggest 6–10% of your total wax weight, depending on your wax type and personal preference. For soaps, always checkIFRA usage rates to ensure your oils are skin-safe and used at the right level. When in doubt, start small and adjust until you find your perfect balance!
