Cold Weather + Fragrance Oil: What to Know

If your fragrance oil doesn’t look or smell quite right after arriving in the cold, don’t worry! It’s a common reaction to lower temps, temporary and totally fixable!
Seeing Crystals or Cloudiness?
Some oils can crystallize or get cloudy when it’s cold, especially if they contain certain ingredients. No worries - just place your tightly capped bottle (not fully submerged) in a bowl of ~90°F water. Let it sit for 30 minutes, pull it out of the water and give it a good shake; repeat as needed until no crystals remain. Once those crystals dissolve, your oil is good to go.
Can’t Smell Much Out of the Bottle?
Fragrance oils can often seem weaker when they’re cold. Let the bottle come back to room temp before making any scent decisions. You’ll usually notice a big difference once it warms up!
When Oils Return to Room Temp
Once they’re back to room temp, your oils should behave and smell just as intended. Still have questions? We're here to help.
